Taste of AAJA:

§          6:30 p.m.-10 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 12 at the Weisman Art Museum.

§          University of Minnesota has picked up the entire cost of the reservations, maintenance and equipment. (About $1,000)

§          Tom has preliminary invite; we need to add people to it. Mary will take on WCCO people and Annie will take FOX and KSTP people.

§          Tom will e-mail invite to board; please edit and add names by Sept. 1 for final list.

§          Invitations should be sent out by early October.

§          Try to get Amelia and Vineeta to be our emcees. Mary will try to get them to confirm by the end of the week. Amelia for the program, Vineeta for the silent auction.

§           In between acts Vineeta could highlight some top items, reminder of when it ends, etc.

§          Ticket prices: $15 for students (do not need to be AAJA members but will need to bring student ID), $20 advance, $25 at the door. (includes two drink tickets)

§          Allie will now begin approaching restaurants

§          Committee will now work on booking the entertainment.

§          Maybe we should get corporations to buy advertisement on our passport. (Friends/listing: $0-$100; Bronze/quarter page: $100-$500; Silver/half page: $500-$1000; Gold/full page: $1000+)

§           We should get people from each company to donate items for the silent auction (someone from PiPress, Strib, WCCO, etc.)

§          Mary will join the Taste committee and help coordinate the sponsorship.

Budget:

§          Tom’s report about chapter’s president meeting: Most presidents didn’t know about the 90/10 split. They were upset about the lack of communication. Rene said that national is now assuming more of the convention work and should be paid for the amount of work they do. We should consider giving some of the money back to national. If we keep the money we will develop a concrete plan to spend that money.

§          Nancy N: We have plenty of opportunities to give national more money. We can give to them on our own terms, such as sponsoring two J-Camp students.

§          We should draft a letter to national saying there are programs that we are interested in sponsoring. Rather than simply giving national more money we would prefer to give money to specific programs that we would like to support. Tom will write the letter.

§          We will have to make it more clear how much is allotted for grant stipends (that the scholarship committee will determine how much each applicant receives) and for what purposes. We will develop a standard letter approving/disapproving applicants.

Future events:

§          Poker/Karaoke night: Moved to the spring. We want to focus on Taste of AAJA.
