NEXT MEETING: July 8, after the Unity picnic during boat-building.

Milk carton race:

Ÿ          Brad (PR guy for the Vikings) has a friend who is willing to help us. This guy won the race five times. He will help design it for us and we will build it.

Ÿ          Mary’s idea for the boat: Hello Kitty.

Ÿ          Lewis and Tom want Ninja Turtles.

Ÿ          Boat race is Sunday, July 16.

Ÿ          We can build in Lewis’ yard.

Ÿ          Mary will design and we will build.

Ÿ          We will start building at noon on July 2 and continue after the Unity picnic on July 8. Wrap-up on July 15.

Ÿ          We need to figure out who will be on the boat.

Taste of AAJA:

Ÿ          Kathy Hansen (director of MJC at j-school) said U is willing to help sponsor, likely to have the space on Dec. 5; she needs to double-check with the events coordinator. Confirmation will come on Monday, June 12.

Ÿ          Tami Kou, works at LaBreche-Murray; new volunteer who will help Tom with PR.

Ÿ          Brad (Vikings guy) said he can help recruit Vikings players or get us signed items for the silent auction.

Ÿ          Once we have the date finalized, we can push forward with recruiting restaurants.

Ÿ          Tom has created a prelim list of invitees: all the newspaper bigwigs, television general managers and news directors, MPR and WCCO radio, ethnic media weeklies, politicians (Moua, Thao, Chaudhary, Rybak, Coleman, council members, police chiefs, governor, etc.), PR firms (Carmichael Lynch, Martin Williams, LaBreche-Murray, Fleishman Hillard, MN corporate Asian network), major MN companies (Best Buy, Target, Cargill, 3M, etc.), local universities and professors. Tom will type up the list and circulate.

Ÿ          Mary said maybe we can do two co-emcees: she can try to get Don Shelby or Amelia Santaniello to co-emcee or even Vineeta Sawkar.

Ÿ          Maybe we can get Amy Hockert to host the silent auction.

Ÿ          Need to get members and participating restaurants to sell tickets.

Ÿ          $1,600 budget. $600 goes toward space.

Investment and financial update:

Ÿ          Have opened Wells Fargo checking account.

Ÿ          Mutual fund investment – Lewis still needs to figure out bookkeeping, talk to other chapter treasurers, about how to report possible chapter losses.

Ÿ          For stipends and professional development – we need to put a max amount on how much people can get.

Ÿ          We need to make sure members know we have money available for professional development.

Internships:

Ÿ          Nancy N.: Can we just handpick members for fall print internships because we have no applicants?

NEXT MEETING AGENDA:

Ÿ          Investment tutorial with Tom – teaching members how to manage money and investing. (Introduction to business and saving money)

Ÿ          Next general meeting we can bring Kara McGuire to talk about personal funding.

Ÿ         Print internship applicants – handpick members for the newsrooms instead of go through application process. We pick students and ask them if they are willing to do it.
