NEXT MEETING:

Taste of AAJA:

§          Four restaurants confirmed: Lucky Dragon, Sawatdee, Camdi, Bombay Bistro.

§          We are paying the restaurants a small amount to cover the cost of labor (their servers) — $150.

§          Buying beer/wine at a wholesale rate. We will give two drink tickets, one for alcohol and one for pop/water. If anyone wants additional alcohol they can “donate” money for drinks.

§          Maya is working on broadcast stations for auction items, Annie will work on Fox stations. But we are doing well with silent auction.

§          Entertainment locked: Chinese dancers, Delicious Venom, Ed Bok Lee, break dancers, steel drum corps.

§          Gallery is open 6:30-7:30; 8:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.

§          Lewis and Tom will start working on content of the program.

§          Need to print the posters.

§          Volunteers: 4-6 for restaurants; 2-3 for silent auction, maybe 1-2 runners.

§          Biggest things we need to do now is push the event; invitations have not worked out as no one has responded by mail.

§          Tickets will be ready Wednesday evening, as will posters.

§          Corporate sponsorships: U of MN ($1,000), Vikings ($1,000), Bremer ($100). Possibly Wells Fargo. Possibly Target.

§          Deadline for program is Dec. 5.

§          Program: Open with emcee, speech by Mary, thanks, entertainment acts. Silent auction will close shortly before or after 9:30 p.m.

Internship:

§          We never awarded spring internships last year. Our goal is to have an intern in the spring at the PiPress and an intern in the fall at the Strib and two broadcast internships.

§          10 weeks, $750 stipend.

§          Applications will be accepted year-round for internships, decisions coming as the internships are available.

§          We will start with a clean slate with the new budget – four internships again in 2007.

§          We should reach out to other states nearby that offer journalism – North Dakota, Wisconsin, Iowa, South Dakota.

Budget:

§          Currently have $38,600 in our bank.

§          $15K in CD, $23,600 in checking – with the amount there we should move some of it to a high-yield savings.

§          2007 budget: $11,450

§          Four internships, valued at $750 each

§          Three scholarships; one at $1,000 through the U, two at $500 that the chapter will hand out.

§          Professional development for members; one ELP recipient up to $1,000, four for conferences or workshops up to $300.

§          National rep travel expenses, twice a year at $1,500.

§          Board meetings and mixers up to $300

§          Misc. expenses $200
