meeting minutes Oct. 20, 2007 In attendance: Emma Carew, Tom Lee, Nancy Ngo, Mary Tan and Nancy Yang Absent: Lewis Leung NEXT MEETING: TBA, possibly before the Catherine Squires reception Karaoke night: § Scheduled for Nov. 16 at U Garden. § Nancy Y. will send the Evite, Nancy N. will help secure judges. Fliers also need to be designed and posted around our buildings. § Tentative schedule: 8-9:30 p.m. buffet open, idol contest from 9:30-10 p.m., free-range singing and then the finals. § Possible judges: Neal Justin (television critic, Strib), Ross Raihala (music critic, PiPress), someone from TV. § Mary will take care of getting the karaoke equipment. Taste of AAJA: §
Nancy Y. and Bao Ong are meeting with Kathleen Hansen
at the SJMC Oct. 23 to discuss sponsorship. They will try to secure space at
the Weisman as soon as possible. §
Mary is developing a list of potential sponsors;
target date to send sponsorship letters out is end of the year. §
Chao Xiong has agreed to head up the silent auction. §
Still looking for someone to chair the entertainment
committee. §
Looking at potential restaurant sponsors — anyone
with ideas or contacts should send them to Bao or Nancy Y. PRISM breakfast: § PRISM, the diversity club at the j-school, will host a recruitment breakfast for students in early November (7th or 14th). AAJA members have been invited to attend meet students and talk about journalism. Camp AAJA: § Bao and Tom will attend Camp AAJA next February at the Poynter Institute. Camp AAJA is a three-day leadership training seminar for AAJA members. Catherine Squires reception (partnering
