AAJA meeting minutes Sept. 19, 2006

Taste of AAJA update:

· Committee meets on Tuesday, Sept. 26 at the Strib, 6:30 p.m.

· No confirmed restaurants, silent auction items, or entertainment acts yet.

· Mary says Amelia and Vineeta are confirmed for emcees.

· Invitations go out in mid-October. RSVP by November 15. Contain three pieces: an invitaton, RSVP card, and letter explaining AAJA. Nancy suggests we add recommended attire, “a night of Asian cuisine, entertainment, and a silent auction,” and explanation of gold, silver, bronze and Friends of AAJA sponsorships.

· Tickets will be sold in three ways: RSVP to invitations, advance tickets in which people who pay will be on a list, and door tickets. People will pick up passports at tables divided by last names in alphabetical order (A-J, K-Q, R-Z, etc.)

· Mary suggests we get band, preferably jazz, to play background music.

· Mary will sell sponsorships to companies. Annie says we should give sponsors how ever many tickets they want. Also invidual people who donate at least $20 should also get tickets.

· Evening breaks out like this: 6:30 p.m. guests arrive and mingle, 7:30-8:30 p.m. program begins, Emcee intro, Mary gives short speech, four entertainment acts, about 15 minutes a piece. 9:30 p.m. Silent auction closes. 10:00 p.m.- Finished.

Board News:

· Will ask Nancy Yang to work with national office to develop chapter constitution

· Terms are 2 years.

· Tom will serve as interim VP-Print for the remainder of Shruti’s term. He will continue to oversee fundraising.

· Nancy Ngo will take over scholarships and internships. Next year Nancy and Tom will visit high schools and colleges to solicit applications.

AAJA chapter video:

· We will shoot the video Sunday, 9/24. Mary will let everyone know time and place.

Media Watch:

· Tom will ask Chao Xiong to serve as Media Watch Coordinator.

· Thanks for all of your hard work. Good luck in Philly. We’ll miss you!!!!
