AAJA-NY has several grants and stipend programs. We realize that journalism is a tough endeavor, therefore, we have created these programs to help Asian American journalists participate in various programs.
Please keep in mind that these grants are only partial subsidies and are not designed to cover all costs of participating in programs. In addition, a chapter member may only receive up to three stipends/grants over a five-year period.
To become an AAJA member, see: http://www.aaja.org/html/membership/membership_app.html
Current Programs
Stipends to Attend the AAJA or UNITY National Conventions The AAJA-NY Chapter every year has some stipends to help members attend the AAJA or UNITY national conventions. All stipend recipients are expected to volunteer during and AFTER the convention. This includes signing up for 6 hours of on-site volunteer time during the convention. Stipend awards will range from $250 to $700 depending on the stipend committeeęs decision. Special consideration will be given to students and active chapter volunteers. IMPORTANT POLICY: if you have already received two previous convention-related stipends from the chapter in the last five years, you are not eligible to apply. All stipend recipients must be members of the New York chapter. Deadline: applications for the 2008 convention must be RECEIVED BY May 24, 2008.

The AAJA-NY chapter mentorship program is is a stellar chance to get advice, to have your stories or broadcast tapes looked over with a professional eye, or to get pep talks when your job is getting you down. If you are a student or journalist just starting out (tri-state area only, please) and you want a print or broadcast reporter to be your mentor, download an application and send it to the mentorship program coordinator.
The mentorship program begins accepting members in October and matches up mentors
with their proteges in November.
