So what's the dish on being editor of one of the leading consumer magazines?

Ask Janice Min, who in her six months as editor in chief of Us Weekly has already caught the media's attention. Min, 34, was promoted to the job last summer after the departure of Bonnie Fuller.

Since then, Us has steadily grown in circulation and hit the 1 million newsstand mark for the first time in December.

"She has great instincts for what the reader wants. She is the perfect person to build on the editorial, advertising and circulation success the magazine is presently enjoying," said Jann Wenner, chief executive of Wenner Media when Min was appointed.

Min will speak to AAJA-NY members on what it's been like leading a magazine in the media capital of the world, what role mentors have played in her rise and what are the promises and pitfalls of magazine journalism. Prior to joining Us, Min served as assistant managing editor at In Style, where she was instrumental in launching several successful newsstand special issues, and had also worked at Life magazine. She began her career as writer for People where she rose up the ranks ultimately to senior editor. Min is a graduate of Columbia University and Columbia School of Journalism. Janice and her husband, Peter Sheehy, a teacher at Horace Mann, are expecting their first child in June.
