The New York Chapter of the Asian American Journalists Association is seeking a part-time Administrator for August 15, 2004 through November 15, 2004 -- with the opportunity to extend the job beyond that time frame. During that time, AAJA-NY will be participating in a variety of projects: The chapter is coordinating a silent auction for a national conference and career fair on August 4-8, 2004 in Washington, D.C. It also is planning a 300-guest endowment dinner on November 17, 2004 at the Waldorf-Astoria in Manhattan.

AAJA-NY seeks a talented self-starter to help coordinate these and other chapter activities during this time. This position is for an independent contractor and offers flexible hours.

AAJA is a 20-year old non-profit organization that seeks to encourage Asian Pacific Americans to enter the ranks of journalism; to work for fair and accurate coverage of Asian Pacific Americans; and to increase the number of Asian Pacific American journalists and news managers in the industry. The New York Chapter is AAJA's largest chapter with more than 300 active members. Experience
• Organizing volunteers
• Event Planning
• Office administration — must be organized and have excellent written and oral communication skills
• Journalism and/or non-profit experience a plus

Duties from August to November
• Assist in tracking and collecting big-ticket items for silent auction fundraiser at UNITY conference in August
• Assist in planning and executing endowment dinner for media executives and journalists in New York in November
• Organize volunteers to provide program assistance

Terms
Contract: $15 to $25 a hour, depending on experience and qualifications
Hours: 20 hours/month
Start Date: August 15, 2004
