Nisid Hajari

Nisid Hajari is managing editor of Newsweek International, the overseas edition of Newsweek magazine. He top-edits the magazine and oversees its coverage globally. Newsweek International has 1.1 million readers around the world and is distributed in 190 countries.

Before becoming managing editor in August 2002, he was the Asia editor of Newsweek International for 16 months, responsible for the magazine's coverage of countries from Afghanistan to Japan. During this time Newsweek won 11 Society of Publishers in Asia awards.

From 1997 to 2000, he worked in Hong Kong as a writer and then an editor for Time Asia, the Asian edition of Time magazine. He covered stories ranging from the handover of Hong Kong to the Asian financial crisis to the fall of Suharto. Two special issues he edited ("Asians of the Century" and "From Sapporo to Surabaya: An Asian Journey") also won general excellence awards from SOPA.

Before Time he worked at Entertainment Weekly as a music writer from 1992 to 1995, and at the Village Voice, where he wrote for the Voice Literary Supplement. He holds a B.A. in English from Princeton University and an M.A. in English/Comparative Literarure from Columbia University. He lives in New York City.
