About the AAJA Texas 2009 scholarship recipient

BAYAN RAJI

Bayan Raji grew up in Omaha, Nebraska. She was lucky enough to spend two years in Ramallah, Palestine. Her experiences in Palestine are what encouraged her to go into the field of print journalism. For a semester in college, Bayan was the assistant news reporter for the University of Houston newspaper, The Daily Cougar. She also utilized the college experience to intern at Houston PBS, Platts and M.D. Anderson Cancer Center where she currently writes for the communication department. In December 2008 she graduated Summa Cum Laude from the Jack J. Valenti School of Communication at the University of Houston. This fall, she will head to New York City to attend Columbia University's Graduate School of Journalism. She is grateful for this scholarship because it will help cover a portion of school-related costs. In the future, she hopes to travel abroad with her husband and work as an international correspondent.
