    Officers Attending: President Tan Ly, VP-Broadcast Sherri Ly, Community Liaison Wanita Niehaus, Secretary HyunJu Chappell Hine, National Board Rep. Doris Truong


    AUCTION REPORT: Tan expressed thanks for everyone's hard work for last night's AAJA-D.C. photo auction. (See auction information and digital photo gallery.) Attendance was high, all but 8 of 53 photos were sold, and Doris noted how successful a fundraiser the Vegas raffle tickets were. (Congratulations to Spenser Hsu for having the winning ticket number!)

    Appreciation was expressed and noted for all those who came out for the event, those who placed bids and those who gave donations on top of their bids.

    Appreciation was expressed for AAJA members and supporters who came from afar and attended (including Rahul Bali of Atlanta, Murali Balaji of Philadelphia, Eleanor Hong in Conn., Joe Grimm of Detroit, and more.) Thanks was expressed to national AAJA for posting the auction information.

    ACTIONS:

    • Ylan and Tan to send thank yous to bidders and sponsors.
    • Tan to ask Wai Ping to fax over address information from bid sheets.
    • HJ to send thanks to volunteers.
    • Wai Ping to report auction proceeds.
    • Tan to sell remaining photos.


    AAJA-DC ELECTIONS: A slate of candidates is to be finalized by 11/1. Interest has been expressed in all posted positions, so far.

    ACTIONS:

    • HJ to post notice that the position for Social Chair will be reinstated for the next year.

    HOLIDAY MIXER/MEMBERSHIP DRIVE:

  • Encourage new memberships and applications for board involvement, stressing continuity and overlap in the board from year to year.

    ACTION: Wanita coordinating event at Saki

    COMMUNITY MEDIA ACCESS WORKSHOP: Discussion of how supportive Rick Dunham and the National Press Club are, and that the Press Club might be a great place to hold the community workshop. The National Arboretum was discussed, but proximity to a Metro station would be preferable. Points made during the media access workshop at the national convention were shared, including tips, timing and spokespeople for community groups.

    ACTION: Wanita to look into date between Jan. to spring for media access workshop.


    CAMP AAJA:

    ACTION: Board members to express interest to Tan if you'd like to attend AAJA chapter leadership training early next year at the Poynter Institute. (The chapter and national AAJA will cover costs.)
