    MINUTES OF JUNE 3, 2006 BOARD MEETING

    AAJA DC Board Meeting

    OLD BUSINESS

    1. Mixer/Scholarship announcement - M Street Bar and Grill

    2. AAJA conference in June - Hawaii
    A. Stipends (8 need-based, $500 each): Approved to award $4,000 total at a maximum of $500 each.
    B. Coordinating, managing volunteers - update, Hyunju
    C. Silent auction
    D. Chapter assignment for 2007 AAJA conference:
    Programming. Date: 8/1-4, 2007, Miami. Doris to organize chapter’s programming duties and coordinate with Gayle Rayos in Miami.

    NEW BUSINESS

    1. Treasurer
    A. New treasurer Cecelia Kang: Wanita to attend treasurer’s meeting at national convention in Cecelia’s place.
    B. Wai Ping gave a summary treasurer’s report before handing off duties to Cecelia. Summary report was well-received; chapter finances in good order. Wai Ping thanked for his service to the chapter.
    C. Doris raised the question if more interest could be earned on the savings account. The question was going to be investigated and checked with national on proper procedures.

    2. AAJA Chapter Challenge - scavenger hunt/challenge through Waikiki. Agreed to sponsor a team for $50.

    3. Trivia Bowl (Fall fundraiser) Organizers named: Susan, Wanita, Sherri

    4. Proposal to reduce monthly mixers to alternate months with higher budget. July mixer. Decided to hold mixers every two months.

    5. Endowment campaign: Chapter will match donations up to $5,000 (Ask the treasurer for details). Contributions to be sent to Cecilia by the deadline of 12/31.

    6. Asian-American Leadership Speaker Series: Speaker nominees

    7. Program idea: coverage of Asian-Americans in the media: January 2007

    8. Planning notes/binder: Doris to do a binder on how to organize the Scrabble tournament and the photo auctions.

    9. Next meeting: 7/22 potluck at Peggy’s, 11 am meeting, followed by potluck.

    10. Interns event: New Media workshop.
    Speakers: Rajiv Chandrasekaran, Washington Post continuous news editor, and try for Wonkette representative. Open to interns and others. Pizza afterward for AAJA student members. Tan to organize the gathering, snacks.
