AAJA-DC Board Meeting Minutes

Officers Attending: President Tan Ly, Secretary Susan Yoo

1. Scholarship check was mailed to Ambreen Ali, our 2006 scholarship winner.

2. Mini-Conference: We had a lot of really positive feedback from this event. We spent $3500 and got $1500 back from registration fees.

3. Happy Hour with AAJA National President Jeanne Mariani-Belding - We had a small turnout for this event, but it went smoothly. Jeanne was in town for the Association of News Editors conference, and we were able to chat with her before she was headed to a Gannett dinner. She'd just come back from a weeklong convention-planning session (for the upcoming AAJA convention in Miami).

4. Sponsorship letter: Wanita to get these out to prospective donors.

5. ELP stipend - Tan motioned that we award Liz Kay $750 to help defray her expenses from ELP. Susan seconded. Tan to conduct an email board vote.

6. National Conference - may boost stipends; we've given awards ranging from $500 to $1000 (up to a total of $2000) in the past few years. We may boost the total amount to $3000 this year.

7. Media Access Workshop - Tan said that Sherri and Wanita have expressed interest in conducting this workshop for a second time this year. (They organized the workshop last year as well.)
