Old Business
1) Trivia Bowl
- Total proceeds: $4,757.67, net: $3,557.67
- Last minute donation: $200

2) Eun Kim gives summary of accounts:
- $10,000.51 (as of 12/31) - Current Account status
- Brought in $4,782 (includes trivia bowl), but also spent $6,768
- Biggest outgoing expense was under scholarship and stipend (convention, internship grants). Catering and food ($1,700+)
- Scholarship money- $3,000
- ELP, only one applicant this year…photographer for Reuters (suggestion: any time money is spent, it needs to be voted on by the board)
- Deposited $200 donation from the Vietnamese-American agency, $400+ from Acteva (for registering)
- Checking account: $2,490
- Total: $10,051
*Note: We are not getting any money from National for membership dues (stays in place for 2 years)
New Business:
1) Budget for 2010:
- Includes workshops/programming/internship stipend/professional stipend/misc. programs
- Suggestion: stipend recipient should receive second half of $$ after volunteering.
- Must volunteer or help organize program/and or an AAJA-D.C. event during the 2010 year (help marketing, help select auction items or sell raffle tickets, etc.)
- minimum of 10 hours of volunteer time
- Patranya and Emma will work together on scholarship info./stipend/getting the word out
- Keeping the stipend(scholarship/internship) up to $2,000
- Professional stipend (last year was at $2,500)
- Convention and professional stipend for 2010 up to $2,000
- Programming and Events (food, rental fees, etc.)
- Last year was $2,000
- This year will remain $2,000
2) 2010 Program Events
- Patranya says AU is willing to work with us for a membership drive/student mixer. (*FYI: Members as of Jan. 25: only 50)
- Consider working with other campuses
- Tentative date/ April or sometime spring?
- prize for someone who signs up the most new members, or even members who sign up more members
- Phone-a-thon?
- Happy Hour Event for AAJA-D.C.

- Scrabble Tournament. Sometime late April? Can usually raise $500.
- Google for Journalists event. Seminar on how to use the search engine more efficiently

3) National Update (Sherri)
- membership is down across the board with AAJA; 40 percent down from last year
- where to come up with money to make budget?
- Boston convention was a massive deficit
- borrowed money from the endowment/ paid it back with interest to cover the gap
- incentive to get back old and new members
- we are being told to fundraise to make up for the losses
